Penzance
General Information
Penzance is located in the South West region of England, United Kingdom and is a vibrant bustling resort town with an amazingly mild climate. The town's most dominant landmark is St Michael's Mount, a tidal island which is a mix of granite and slate. Sheltered by Mount's Bay, Penzance has a lovely sweep of clean sandy beach.
Penzance's economy is based on tourism, light industry and retail businesses. For tourists there are many attractions and things to do. Only about 10miles from Land's End the town has Celtic culture mixed with the natural beauty of the surrounds. Imposing cliffs, rocky outcrops and beaches with clear waters forms Penzance today, and is a source of inspiration to all who choose it as their destination.
With the areas history of smugglers and pirates and hidden coves, Penzance with its tradition of song and dance, inspired Gilbert and Sullivan to name one of their most famous productions "The Pirates of Penzance" after it.
The town faces onto the English Channel which makes for good fishing which still forms income for the town with most of the catch being exported.
